Jacob I. Fehr 1913 - 2008 Jacob I. Fehr beloved Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Brother was called home to be with his Lord and Savior at 11:50 P.M. on Saturday, October 11, 2008 while at his residence in Salem Home. He lived to be 95 years, 5 months, and 7 days. Dad was born April 4, 1913 in the village of Reinland to Isaac and Katharina Fehr (nee Driedger). Dad experienced tragedy early in life when he lost his own father. Dad was 11 years old at the time and had to grow up quickly, working on the fields and doing many of the chores that were required to keep the farm going. Dad was baptized upon the confession of his faith in Jesus Christ in the Reinland Sommerfelder church by Bishop Toews. It was on November 9, 1941 that Dad was united in marriage to Helena Neufeld. They were able to experience 52 years of life together spending most of those years on the farm in the Gnadenthal area. Dad and Mom established a homestead just south of Gnadenthal and were blessed with 9 children. Dad and Mom toiled many hours together looking after the farm and the many responsibilities that life on the farm with 9 children brought. Dad was meticulous in his work, taking good care of the homestead and the farm. Dad and Mom retired from active farming in 1992 and moved to their home in Winkler. Dad never did lose his love for farming. He was always interested in and asking about what was happening in the farming world. To this day he had cobs of corn and grains of wheat in his room. He had picked these from fields that he had stopped at and checked out. Dad continued to enjoy regular visits to the coffee shop playing many a checker game with his friends in Blumenfeld, Plum Coulee, and Winkler. Dad was actively involved in the Sommerfelder church having been a song leader for over 30 years. Dad was active in giving to missions both locally and world wide. When he became aware of a need for food, money, or a ride to Winnipeg for medical help Dad was generous and quick to help. With Moms passing in 1994 Dad became very lonely. He found purpose by volunteering at Salem. This went on until February of 2004 when he got quite ill. At this time Dad was admitted to Boundary Trails Health Center. Dad never did move back to his home on Mountain, but rather because of his health situation, he moved into Salem in June of 2004. This became his home until his passing. Dad enjoyed participating in the various activities and programs offered at Salem. Dad provided well for his family. He wanted to do what was right and knew that he as much as anyone else needed Gods forgiving and redeeming grace. The grace of God was a great comfort to him. One of his greatest desires was that each one in the family would experience this forgiving and redeeming grace. My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. II Corinthians 12:9 He also desired that the family would live in unity with one-another, which is made possible through the power of Jesus Christ. Dad became ill on Monday Sept, 29, 2008. After a brief time of battling infections, Dad passed away with his children Dave and Barb at his side. He leaves to mourn 8 children: Mary Fehr, Helen and husband Bert Klassen with children, Raymond and Laura Klassen, Nancy and Leonard Friesen. Jake and Edna Fehr with children, Tracey and Abe Peters, Jolene and Gaetan Marin, Marlin. Cornie and wife Hilda Fehr with children Andrew, Steven and Deanna. David and wife Barb Fehr with children James and Robert. Margaret and husband Willie Dyck. John and Gertrude with children Thomas and Alisson. Tina and Gerald Thiessen with children Ryan, Amanda and Joe Krahn, Jody, Brent, as well as 8 great grand children. Dad also leaves to mourn 2 sisters and 1 brother-in-law, Helen Fehr, Aganetha & Charles Klausen and many other relatives and friends. Dad was predeceased by his wife Helena Fehr nee Neufeld in 1994, son Peter in 1956, son-in-law Jack Wiebe in 1969, and grandson Grant Fehr in August of 2008 and numerous relatives and friends. Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Homes Ltd. 121 8th St. on Wednesday (today) from 1-6:0 pm and at the church prior to the service. Funeral service will be held on Thursday October 16, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Winkler Sommerfeld Mennonite Church 189 2nd St. Interment to follow at Waldheim Cemetery. Dad will be missed by many, but we are not as those without hope. We know that he is with Jesus enjoying the wonders of heaven. We as a family would like to express our thanks and appreciation to each one involved in the service and the ladies group for serving the meal. Thanks to the volunteers and staff at Salem. Dad appreciated them very much. Thanks also to each one of Dads friends and those he came in contact with. He enjoyed visiting , sharing stories, playing checkers and drinking coffee together. Dad had a sense of humor and made many people laugh with simple sayings. Thank-you to Wiebe Funeral Home for your kind assistance during this time of grieving. Thank you also to Reverend Abe Wiebe, Reverend Art Wiebe, Reverend Jake Heide, and Reverend David Friesen for walking with Dad and helping us in various ways. |
